FOR RESIDENTS OF HOUSTON-CLEAR LAKE

If you want to write a novel or a poem, you sit down at a PC. If you want to try painting, you buy a brush, a canvas, and enroll at the community college. But what if you want to be part of a movie? For anyone living in the Houston-Clear Lake area, Insert Logo Productions offers a unique opportunity to do just that. Although trained actors will obviously get better roles than novices, NO EXPERIENCE OR TRAINING IS REQUIRED! Whether you have to memorize more lines than anyone or you drive camera equipment from one location to another, EVERYONE MATTERS!

Although ILP is currently in pre- (pre-pre-pre-) production of its next project, anyone wishing to help with it can register NOW and will be contacted once his/her services are needed. Simply send us an email stating how you would like to help (acting, driving, writing, costume design, editing, etc.), your experience (“I did drama in high school” or “I do this for a living an expect $7,000 up front”), what part of the area you’re from (the Village, West U., Pasadena, etc.), and, if you are interested in acting, a picture and/or your approximate age and physical description.

All work is pro bono. No paying positions are available UNLESS the movie you work on makes money, in which case everyone who worked on it is entitled to a share.

FOR NON-RESIDENTS

Would you like to help fill the world with more oblique and oddly-colored art films? Do you not live anywhere near Houston, Texas? Is there money burning a hole in your pocket? Every little bit helps—just send us an email and we’ll talk. Although donations will ensure a share of any potential profit the film makes, ILP cannot guarantee the return of any investments at this time. Donations are not considered tax deductible; we haven’t figured out that one yet.

ACTING

Do you act, want to get back into acting, or want to find out what acting’s like? Silent parts for people who don’t like memorizing and voiceover parts for people who don’t like being on screen.

ADVERTISING / COMMUNICATIONS

Are you good with posters and press kits and researching low-budget film festivals and packing endless DVDs into envelopes? Are you interested in going to film markets and are you good at getting skeptical buyers to watch or take home a DVD screener?

ARTISTIC ADVISORS

Do you have a degree in art history, film, literature, dance, or anything else that might allow you to provide any sort of artistic advice?

ARTISTS

Would you like to draw storyboards or still drawings to be used in place of footage that is simply too hard to shoot?

ASSISTANTS

Are you dying to stand next to a director or a camera operator and label DV tapes or check off the scene that’s just been shot?

CAMERA

Do you know how to work any kind of video camera? Are you good at still photography for promotional stills? Do you understand lenses? Can you frame a shot or explain the golden ratio?

Do you know about audio-visual connections, video capture, exporting to MPEG2 and DVD, backing up hard drives, etc.? Are you undaunted by the MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF HARD DRIVE SPACE and RAM necessary to edit a feature film on a PC? Do you think you can do a better job with this website?

COSTUMES

Are you good with how clothes should fit and like raiding thrift stores?

DIRECTOR

Can you talk a good game? Can you hide your tyrannical, dictatorial yearnings behind a mask of caring how anyone else feels? (Moderate experience or at least hefty theoretical knowledge required.)

EDITING

Are you familiar with Adobe Premiere or any other video editing software?

EQUIPMENT

Do you have any video, MiniDV, photographic, camera, sound recording, or lighting that you’re dying to use? Do you have Gigs of hard drive space that you don’t know what to do with? WANTED ESPECIALLY: obsolete camera equipment!

Do you know how to handle, develop, edit, and / or buy good old fashioned film?

MUSICIANS

Want to promote your music by getting it in a movie? Electronic music that’s either original or in the public domain is the easiest to use, but all other styles and instruments are worth a try.

PRODUCERS / ADMINISTRATORS

Are you freakishly organized? Are you good with money and spreadsheets?

PROPS

Own any cool stuff, perhaps for a stage play?

SCREENWRITERS

Are you good with proper script format or willing to learn? Do you understand the fabled “Three Act Structure” and know what a “pinch” is?

SPECIAL EFFECTS

Do you know how to do cheap stuff like gunshots and gunshot wounds or blowing up miniatures? Do you have lots of ideas that you’ve wanted to try?

TRANSLATORS

In an international city like Houston, you never know what kinds of doors open with bilingual fluency. English / Spanish is, of course, the most helpful, but Houston also has the largest Vietnamese population in Texas.

WRITERS

Any story, however bizarre or wacky, you’d like to see turned into a short or a feature, even if it has to get cut up a bit? Original or public domain only please.
